Short story Elemennts

Major Elements of Short Story By JeremyJohansson
1) plot
-introduction- the intro is when our main man is thinking to him self about the scenery and of what to do.
-conflict- the conflict here is, Man v.s Man, and the two men are the boy arguing with the Jamaican guy to change the bet and while the bet is happening.
-rising action-  when Carlos meets the boy and they start talking about his lighter.

-climax- When the old Jamaican guy has the boys hand strapped to the table ready to chop his finger off while the boy is lighting his lighter.
-falling action-  When the woman comes in the room and interrupts there bet.
-conclusion-  at the end when He thinks "I can see it now, that hand of hers; it had only one finger on it, and a thumb." When he sees the woman.
2) Character
- protagonist- an example of the main character is the guy who buys a beer and chills by the pool because we see the story through his eyes.

- antagonist- In this occasion the antagonist is our main character having to watch as Carlos is about to chop this kids finger off.
-static - I think the main character in the story is a static character because he is just along for the ride and has no input on the matter.
-round- the woman that busts into the room while there bet is happening and she seems like just a sweet lady with Carlos problem, then you see her hand and then you realize that she is the betting type.
- flat-
the flat character in this story is the English girl because she has one or two lines and she didn't like the bet and never will, so she never changes characteristics.
- stock character- Carlos your regular stereotypical rich Jamaican drug lord
- dynamic- I think the boy is the one that actually changes the most  he goes form not want to bet to let his pinky finger  be chopped off in order to possibly win a car.
3) Setting
-atmosphere- at first it starts off as a nice warm place then later on it turns into like a shady underground sort of deal
-time- the story says 6:00 o'clock while the sun is going down.
- place
- the story is set in Jamaica because the old guy is Italian, Jamaican and it says so in the story.
4) Theme
- I think the theme of this story is don't get involved with crazy rich Jamaican people
5) Point of View
-first person
- This perspective is used in this story by our nameless main character because he refers to himself as "I" and not his name.
-third person N/A
6) Foreshadowing
- When the old man says "I never ask you, my friend, to bet something you cannot afford. You understand?" he is foreshadowing that he is gong to ask for something out of the ordinary.
